Rebecca Boone Elementary: Programs & Activities: PBS(Positive Behavior Support)

Positive Behavioral Supports

PBS (Positive Behavioral Supports) is a process for creating safer and more effective schools.  PBS is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school wide and classroom discipline systems.  The process focuses on improving a school's ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.  Rather than a prescribed program, PBS provides systems for schools to design, implement and evaluate effective school-wide classroom, non-classroom and student specific discipline plans.  PBS is not a program or a curriculum.  It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning and evaluation.  It is an approach to creating an environment within which school-based teams of educators are trained.

At Rebecca Boone one example of our PBS is the Golden Spork Award that encourages students to use manners and appropriate behavior in the cafeteria.  Classes who meet all cafeteria expectations have an opportunity to earn a gold spork each day.  Once a class earns ten sports, they get to enjoy an extra recess.

The  Blue Bus Incentive is another example that is sponsored by McDonald Hamburger.  If the  students on a school bus go one quarter without any disciplinary notices the Rebecca Boone students on that bus are eligible to receive a treat from McDonalds at no cost to our school district.
