Mrs. Schaefer will have a professionally trained therapy dog in her classroom almost every day.
What will the dog do all day? Shadow will be reading with students, supporting them with their math, or just taking a nap. He will frequently roam the room, giving moral support to all who need a little extra love.
What are the benefits of having a therapy dog at school? He provides physical and emotional support, stress relief, models good behavior, models acceptance and tolerance and provides unconditional love.
Facts about Shadow:
He was born May 18, 2004 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He has received advanced obedience training to serve as a therapy dog. He had to pass a temperament test and become CGC certified to come to school every day. Shadow received his certificate and a canine good citizen gold medal for his accomplishments in the training class.
