classroom management
Dear Parents,
I am pleased to have your child in my class this year. In order to provide my students with the excellent educational climate they deserve. I have developed the following Classroom Management Plan that will be in effect at all times.
The rules I feel are necessary for the smooth operation of the classroom are:
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be Safe
- Raise your hand to talk in class.
- Follow directions the first time given.
I will discuss these rules with the class on the first day of school and frequently throughout the year.
What happens if a child chooses to break a rule?
Each child has stick with his/her name on it. Everyday their stick starts on the smiley face. When a rule is broken they move their stick to:
Warning: No consequence-we all make mistakes
Time-Out: 10 minute time-out in the classroom
2nd time-out: 15 minute time-out in another 1st grade classroom. **Student will complete think sheet upon returning to class. Teacher and student will discuss think sheet and what will be done differently next time.
Recess: 10 minute loss of recess
Severe disruption, physical violence or threats will be immediately sent to the principal.
I will not contact you when a child moves their stick to warning. This is their “oops” mistake and a time for us to talk about appropriate behavior. If a child has to go to time-out in another classroom and/or miss recess I will contact you. I will also contact you if a child repeatedly has time-outs in the classroom.
We will be reviewing this plan frequently in the classroom, but I would appreciate it if you would also review and support this with your child.
