Library Procedures
Each
classroom visits the Library for a 45 minute slot 3 to 4 times each
month. They will listen to stories, do activities, read books
and magazines and best of all, check out books. The number of books
checked out varies by grade level. They will also visit the
Computer Lab one or two times a month. We use software as
well as online sites to practice reading strategies and spelling.
Students will also begin learning and using basic computer
skills.
First graders may borrow 2 books at a time and keep them for
up to 2 weeks. Please keep the book for at least 1 week and
read through the book with your child. Encourage your child
to read to you. Studies show that reading through the same
material several times improves comprehension.
Kindergarteners may borrow 1 book at a time. They may
keep the book for 1 week. Please keep the book for the full
week. I strongly suggest that you and your child read through
their book several times. Use this opportunity to practice
letter recognitions and letter sounds. Second semester, they
will be able to borrow 2 books at a time and keep them for 1
week.
Books are due at the end of 2 weeks, but may be renewed. No
fines are assessed, and overdue notices usually are not sent unless
books are 6-7 weeks late.
Students visit the library outside of their scheduled class time
during “Open Library”. This is offered daily for students who
were absent during the class visit or who need new books to
read.
