Parents As Teachers

Focus On The Children...

Join the Warrenton Parents As Teachers Program Today!

Warren Co. R-III Parents as Teachers is a free program to all families in the Warren Co. R-III School District. We provide developmental information as well as screenings, community resources and group connections (playgroups) for socialization.

What is Parents as Teachers?

Parents as Teachers is an international organization committed to providing developmental information and screenings for your child(ren) ages prenatal to kindergarten. You will get an initial visit to enroll your family into the program then we will set up a visit with you for a screening.

  1. Are you here to check out my house? No, we are not there to check out your house or spy on you. This is a voluntary program and we know you are welcoming us into your home because you want to be the best parent for your child(ren) you can be.

  2. How much does it cost? The program is free to all families in the Warren Co. R-III School District.

  3. What are group connections? “Group Connections” is the new word for playgroups. We have many scheduled for this school year and we encourage attendance to them. These are a great way to get the children out to have fun and socialize with other children their age. Group Connections will be posted on the Parent as Teachers Facebook page.

  4. What does a home visit look like?  Home visits are what you make out of them. We will come to your home and share a developmental activity, a developmental book, developmental information and possibly a screening. We play “on the floor” to be at the children’s level. Not only will we provide developmental information, we will also talk with you about discipline, potty training, and other situations that may come up for your family.

  5. What is a screening? A screening is a tool we use to assess where your child (ages 6 months to 6 years) may be developmentally, socially and emotionally. We use the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and the Dial 4. We do the screenings in the comfort of your home and with you in the room with us. The screening gives us information on whether your child is developing typically or may need some intervention. After the screening, we will discuss the findings with you and refer you to a specialist if necessary.

  6. How do I sign up for the program? If you would like to join the program, call the Parents as Teachers office at 636-456-4311 ext 3316.  We will call you back as soon as possible to set up a time and date for our first visit.
