In this season of Thanksgiving, the Warrenton Activities Department would like to reflect on the fall 2017 season, highlight our successes, and thank those who play a major role making it all possible. To say that the fall 2017 season was a success is an understatement. All of our athletic teams and activities experienced many accomplishments and I’m going to take a few minutes to highlight some of those below.

On the athletic side of things, volleyball had a very successful season as the varsity squad set the school record for wins in a season with 26, in addition they won the St. Clair, Seckmann, and Cuba tournaments. The JV volleyball team finished their season winning both GAC Conference regular season and tournament championships. The volleyball program wasn’t done there as the freshmen team also won the GAC regular season and tournament championships as well. The future looks very bright for the Lady Warrior volleyball program!

Girls golf in its third year continues to grow as a sport as there were more out this year than in the previous two. With a large freshman class Coach Anderson is excited what the next few years could hold.

Trap experienced their most successful season across the board this past fall. With numerous individuals recording perfect scores throughout the season, they were able to qualify for the state shoot again this fall.

Cross Country had a history-setting year as well as they posted the first boys conference title in 28 years and earned the school’s first boys GAC Conference Championships. Coach Collins was also selected the GAC North Coach of the Year to add to the conference awards. Cross Country qualified four runners for state this past season and they made great strides toward improvement all season long.

The soccer program improved each week as the season progressed. As a program the soccer team had three athletes that were selected to the all conference and all district teams this past season.

The softball program continued its conference dominance as they finished undefeated conference champs for the fifth straight season. Warrenton landed seven all conference players, while Coach Hibbs earned the GAC North Coach of the Year for the fifth straight year. Destinee Frost finished her decorated career earning a 1st Team All State selection.

Football finished the year with a 9-2 record and won their first conference championship in 22 years, while earning the school’s first GAC Conference Title. Brenden Smith was named the GAC North Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while Coach McDowell was also named the GAC North Coach of the year.

Athletics was not the only bright spot this fall as our choir department had an amazing fall as well. These six students qualified for Northeast Missouri All-District Honor Choir: Jaycie Cornell, Andrew Ohmes, and Jourdan Flores. Also, our a cappella groups Girls Night Out and Pitch the Keys are moving on in the Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella Quarterfinals.

Band had another amazing year accomplishing many of their goals and receiving the highest point totals they have ever received. If you had a chance to see them this fall, you truly know how exciting they are to watch!!

To top all of these things off, every fall sport as well as choir and band received either the Outstanding or Distinguished Academic Award from the Missouri State High School Athletic Association.

So, we at Warrenton High School have a lot to be thankful for this year! I would like to take this time to thank our students, coaches, teachers, parents, and community for their continued support. Without everyone working together for the greater good of our students and this community, none of these accomplishments would be possible. Happy Thanksgiving!!
